Covid-19 Coronavirus Update

We would like to reassure all patients that we will continue to care for you in the best way possible during the Covid-19 Outbreak.  In order for us to do this we are making some changes to the way in which we can do this.  From Monday 16 March 2020 we will be moving all appointments with doctors to a telephone based system.  If you are not at risk of having contracted Covid-19 and do not have any symptoms but need to be seen face to face, the doctor you speak to will arrange an appointment for you.  If you have an appointment with a nurse, you will be called to check that you are not at risk of having contracted Covid-19 and do not have any symptoms and if that is the case, you will be able to come in to the the nurse as normal.  

The guidance issued by the Government - if you have a fever or a cough, you should self-isolate and if you are unwell, you should contact NHS111 -  remains the same.

If you do need to come into the surgery, please ensure you sanitize your hands.  If you are bringing in a prescription request, this is a really good time to review how you order repeat prescriptions to avoid coming into the practice.  You can sign up for online access (click here) or contact your local preferred pharmacy to ask them to order on your behalf.

Coronavirus - Booking appointments

We have been asked to switch off patient access to booking routine appointments on line in order that each patient can be triaged in an effort to halt the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).  If you need to make an appointment please call the practice.  You will be asked 3 questions before the appointment is booked for you.  Please bear with us at this time as we will have an increased number of patients calling us so the phones will be even busier than normal. 

In line with national guidance, if you have symptoms and have either travelled from any of the affected areas of the world or have been in close contact with a confirmed case of Coronavirus, please do not come into the practice, call NHS111 free on 111 for more advice.  Updated guidance on Coronavirus can be found here.  

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

Your employer can ask you to confirm that you've been ill.You can do this by filling in a form yourself when you return to work. This is called self-certification.

If you're sick and off work for more than seven days, your employer will probably ask for proof of your illness. Most employers ask for a fit note from your GP.

However, this will also depend on your employer's company policy on sick leave (or sickness absence). This policy should tell you how many days you can be off sick before you need to provide proof of illness or a fit note.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
